Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I hope you and your families had a blessed Easter. With spring finally here, I want to make sure I provide you with some recent updates/reminders.
2018 Membership Drive
Our 2018 Membership Drive is ending soon! Chapters need to submit their dues to Supreme Treasurer Katerina Mavrophilipos no later than May 1, 2018. Along with the dues, we ask that the Chapters provide all member info including email addresses electronically. This is of great importance. The Chapter who submits the greatest percentage of dues based on their last year’s Chapter Membership numbers will receive a Plaque of Appreciation and Honorable Mention at the next PIB Convention. In addition, the Chapter will be given two complimentary seats to the Sunday Banquet at the upcoming convention. We hope you support our efforts and do your part to help us hit our membership goals by May 1!
Atlanta Supreme Lodge Meeting
The Supreme Lodge traveled to Atlanta, Georgia on March 10, 2018 for its winter meeting, which was hosted by Chapter Langada. A big thank you to President Florence Potter and the members for their warm hospitality. The Supreme Lodge had the opportunity to meet with everyone over lunch at Basil’s Restaurant and Tapas Bar, which was followed by our meeting. Once again, thank you Chapter Langada for your hospitality.
Final Supreme Lodge Meeting
Our final Supreme Lodge meeting will be taking place in Los Angeles, California on Saturday May 5, 2018. The Lodge is looking forward to seeing our Brothers and Sisters on the west coast from Chapter Oinoe. The meeting will take place at St. Anthony Greek Orthodox Church in the Trinity Ballroom at 11AM. Brunch will be served and then the meeting will commence. We look forward to a productive meeting and urge all Icarians in the greater Pasadena area to join us.
2018 Youth Conference
The 2018 Pan-Icarian Youth Conference will be taking place in Pittsburgh, PA during Memorial Day Weekend. Chapter Icaros will also be hosting their mini convention that same weekend.
The Youth Conference is a great opportunity for our youth to connect, learn more about the Brotherhood and prepare for future leadership positions. We hope that each chapter sends 2 delegates to the conference to represent their chapter. The Brotherhood will pay for the delegate’s hotel room along with some other items over the weekend. However, we ask that chapters help their delegates with their travel expenses to/from Pittsburgh if possible to ensure a healthy attendance. If you are in the area, we hope to see you at the conference or mini convention! For more information, please email Erica Aivaliotis at firstname.lastname@example.org
Ikarian Alzheimer’s Project
For those of you who have not heard, Maria Shriver in partnership with NBC has asked the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood of America to be part of an amazing Alzheimer’s Project that will focus on Icarians and their families after immigrating to the USA. To make this project successful, we need your help to collect some data.
If anyone from your family who is of Icarian descent has been or had been diagnosed with any form of Alzheimer’s Disease while living in America, we want to hear from you. Please contact Katerina Mavrophilipos at email@example.com or (410) 218-5191 for more information and instructions.
We know this is a sensitive and personal subject for many families, but we appreciate any way you can help us in furthering the research on this devastating disease. Thank you in advance!
Diagoras Athletic Club
Thank you to everyone who donated to our fundraising drive for the Diagoras Athletic Group. I am happy to announce that we raised $5,000 to help the club continue their mission of providing athletic opportunities for the youth living in Ikaria. Our fundraising drive was successful thanks to generosity of several chapters and individuals!
The Brotherhood still needs your memorabilia, photos and letters from past conventions, chapter events, and any other items that we can preserve for our future generations and add to our official Archive Center that is in Pittsburgh. Originals can be mailed, or scanned copies can be sent to me (George Paralemos) to tag and process. Let’s all do our part to preserve our rich history.
This year we are reintroducing a fourth issue of the Ikaria Magazine. I encourage all the Chapter leaders and members to submit as much content as possible to the magazine. We want to see the magazine grow! The success of the magazine depends on all of us to do our part. There are many great Icarian events and moments happening that can be highlighted. We also all know someone deserving to feature for the Icarian Spotlight section.
Lastly, even consider submitting an article that can be of interest to the members. We welcome some feedback and ideas on how we can improve the magazine. Contact the editor at : Ikariamag@tampabay.rr.com.
Thank you for your time. I wish everyone a wonderful spring season!
