Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I hope you and your families had a nice Memorial Day weekend. As we prepare for our summer vacations, I want to make sure I provide you with some recent updates/reminders.
Southern California Supreme Lodge Meeting
A big thank you to President Maria Katsas and the entire Oinoe Chapter for hosting our final Supreme Lodge meeting on Saturday, May 5th in Los Angeles, CA. The Chapter arranged a great brunch for the visiting Supreme Lodge. We had a productive meeting and had the opportunity to meet with many members of the Chapter. President Katsas and the other Chapter officers should be commended for the wonderfu l job they are doing. They have tremendously increased their membership numbers this year and have many events planned until the end of the y ear. Once again, thank you Oinoe Chapter for hosting us!
Youth Conference & Mini Convention in Pittsburgh
I had the pleasure of attending this year’s Youth Conference and Mini Convention hosted by the Icaros Chapter this past Memorial Day weekend. Youth Governor Erica Aivaliotis, and Chapter President Georgia Barlamas should be commended for all the hard work they put into organizing the Conference and Mini Convention.
The Youth Conference was a great succe ss and well attended. There were 23 impressive delegates from 12 Chapters with approximately 45 Youth who participated in the weekend’s events. During the business meeting many initiatives and goals were discussed including the unveiling of their new and improved website – http://pan-icarian.net. New liaisons were appointed who are now responsible for hosting an event to fundraise for the Youth, increase participation and membership by organizing new outings and execute a Service Project in June. The Youth also agreed to create and sell merchandise at chapter events and online and to help with different events at the upcoming national convention in Washington D.C. The business meeting also included several presentations. Dr. Dessa Stone presented on the importance of Leadership and Humanitarianism. Foundation Chairman George Horiates, along with his Board, spoke about the Foundation and the importance of being involved in the Brotherhood. It was also agreed that Katie Kefalos and Rainia Lardas will remain in charge of the Social Media Committee. Both Katie and Rainia have helped grow our social media presence tremendously. A big thank you to both for a job well done. Finally, if somebody from your chapter would like to be the liaison but was unable to attend the conference, please have them contact Erica Aivaliotis at email@example.com.
I left the Youth Conference feeling inspired that the future of the Brotherhood is in good hands. That is why we need to constantly encourage and support our Youth members to stay involved, participate and run for chapter offices. Our Youth are poised to take our Brotherhood to new heights!
Washington D.C. Convention
Have you made your convention plans yet? If not, what are you waiting for? This year, the Brotherhood’s annual Convention will be held in Washington, D.C. from Friday, August 31 to Monday, September 3, 2018. It is sure to be a fun and memorable weekend!
Chapter Lefkas is eager to show you an unforgettable weekend at our Nation’s Capital. Icarians will take over the Grand Hyatt Washington, a great hotel in an exceptional location. You’ll experience everything Washington D.C. has to offer, all within minutes of the hotel. Please use their website http://www.pan-icariandc2018.com for room reservations ($179 +tax/night), weekend events, purchasing tickets, travel information, and more!
The Chapter has been working very hard the past two years to prepare for our long-awaited return to Washington D.C. We hope you support the chapter, and our Brotherhood, by attending the Convention and the Grand Banquet and purchasing an ad in the Convention album.
June is Pan-Icarian Volunteer Month!
The Supreme Lodge, with the help of Youth Governor Erica Aivaliotis and the Icarian Youth, are calling on all our members and chapters to participate in our second Pan-Icarian volunteer campaign in the month of June. Through volunteering we can make a positive impact to individuals and our communities. We hope your chapter can once again plan, support and contribute to this great project. Together, we can all make a difference.
A friendly reminder to pay your 2018 membership dues! Please submit your dues to your local Chapter. I cannot emphasize enough how important your dues are to the continued success of our Brotherhood. Your contribution helps your Chapter cover its administrative costs and helps keep it strong and prosperous. By being a member, you are part of a historically rich family that cares for its community, education and Hellenism.
As a reminder to the Chapters, rather than submit paper receipts with your per capita checks ($20 per member), we are asking each Chapter to email its membership info in a spreadsheet format to Supreme Treasurer, Katerina Mavrophilipos at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include emails in the spreadsheet!
July 1, 2018 is the deadline to apply for a Pan-Icarian scholarship! Please do not forget to send in your application! Scholarship applications are available on-line at http://www.pan-icarian.com/scholarship/. I highly encourage every high school senior, college and graduate student that meets the scholarship criteria to apply for a scholarship.
Thank you for your time.
